LOS ANGELES This year's OSCAR nominations have been released and no surprise maybe that George Clooney has been nominated for "The Descendants". We don't usually put the information on this page for LA but since this year's nominations are diverse we thought it applies. Gary Oldman has been nominated in the same category for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and Jean Dujardin for T"The Artist". To complete best actor category we have Brad Pitt for "Moneyball" and Damian Bichir for "A Better Life". Max Von Sydow and Christopher Plummer compete in the supporting actor category alongside Kenneth Branagh, Nick Nolte and Jonah Hill. How about the female side of the house - best actress nominees are: Glenn Close for "Albert Nobbs" Meryl Streep for "The Iron Lady", Michelle Williams "My week with Marilyn", Rooney Mara "the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and Viola Davis "The Help. Good luck to the voting members on that category! Best supporting actress are as follows: Melissa McCarthy, Janet McTeer, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Cjhastain and Berenice Bejo. For best film there are more nominees than in previous years (and not all have best director nominations attached - is that a sign?) and are as follows: War Horse, The Tree of Life, Moneyball, Midnight in Paris, Hugo, The Help, The Descendants, The Artist and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It may be too early to speculate but the lists look good for a possible upset on the night or it will be the inevitable over the best. The same could be said for the Best Film category. There will be more on this as the publicity machine gets rolling. Most of the best film nominees have showings in other categories. Best Animated has some popular films including "Puss in Boots" and Rango as well as Kung Fu Panda 2. |

For the first time in 40 years the cast playing the Von Trapp family in the Sound of Music reunited on the Oprah Winfrey Show. There had been a documentary to commenorate the 30th Anniversary but famously Christopher Plummer would not attend. This time he along with Dame Julie Andrews and the rest of the actors who played their children came to talk to Oprah. Plummer still managed to have a little diss at the film calling it The Sound of Mucus. He has always tried to distant himself from the role, perhaps more so because it was such a hit.
