Actor and director Mel Gibson has now been dropped by his agency William Morris Endeavor. It has been revealed that the only reason this hasn't happened sooner is that Gibson was repped by Ed Limato, who was a senior executive at the agency and well known agent to the stars for decades. He died on July 3rd. Gibson's anti-semitic remarks in the past has not helped as many agents in the business are Jewish. Many believe it will take a lot to get Gibson's career on track again.

Actress Sandra Bullock has finalised her divorce from Jessie James. Bullock will retain sole custody of her adopted son which she couldn't do until the divorce was finalised. It has been a traumatic year for Bullock although she did win awards for her role in The Blind Side. Looks like her career will not be affected by her divorce from reality star James. Monster Garage which he starred in is also a huge success but time will tell as you never know in reality!.

After a life filled with romance and illness, Dame Elizabeth Taylor passed away at Cedars Sinai Hospital surrounded by her 4 children from 7 marriages. She married famous co-star Richard Burton twice. They met famously on the set of Cleopatra one of the most expensive films in Hollywood. The cause seems to be congestive heart failure. Despite health problems she worked tirelessly in recent years for HIV tolerance. She was 79.

Los Angeles county decided to charge Mel Gibson with misdeamnor battery against his ex-girlfriend and almost immediately Gibson and his lawyer were in court to plead no contest (guilty basically) Friday March 11th. He has been put on probation and should go to behavioural counselling.

Musician Phil Collins has announced he will be stepping back from his career to look after his two young sons full time. He made a statement to counter the many misleading reports that he was leaving because he "felt unloved" or was in ill health. There have been reports saying that he was having problems with hearing, nerve damage in his hands and possible spinal problems. This was not mentioned in the statement. It doesn't however mean there won't be a comeback as it is not the first time Collins has walked away only to resurface so it will be a game of wait and see.

It may seem a bit of a repeat performance by now but The King's Speech won Best Picture, Best Director for Todd Hooper and Best Original Screenplay plus Colin Firth picjked up the Oscar for Best actor as everyone predicted. Australian Geoffrey Rush missed out on an award for the film which went to British actor Christian Bale, who took away the Best Supportung Actor award for The Fighter and Natalie Portman took Best Actress for Black Swan. Most of the technical awards were picked up by Inception.

Award season is well underway now with The King's Speech in front at the moment. As everyone knows there can always be a surprise in the awards. The Oscar nominations have been announced and while the film is again in front with the number of nominations there is strong competition. Natalie Portman is up again for Black Swan and The Figher is also in the mix. The Social Network of course is there so not quite a slam dunk as people are predicting. The Golden Globes gave Colin Firth the gong for best actor but the Social Network won for best picture. Might be the same again as the Globes are a good predictor. The results will be in at the end of February!

Actor Colin Firth picked up another gong for his role as George VI in The King's Speech. This timeit was The Hollywood Foreign Press Association - Golden Globe. The ceremony at the Beverly Hilton had the nominations read by Sandra Bullock who presented the Best Actor award. Ricky Gervais of The Office fame was the MC.

Even though our photo is from a previous appearance by Lindsay Lohan in court there is no doubt she has shed a few tears. Her lawyer pleaded no contest to the theft of a necklace by Lohan. The latest incident by the actress and she has been sentenced to 120 days in jail, 450 hours of community service and her probation has now been extended for another 3 years. There is talk that she may actually be put on house arrest with an ankle bracelet but she also has to take some classes for theft. Everyone obviously hopes that this will be the last incident for some time but with the extension of probation there is a good chance it won't be the last.

Finally it can be confirmed that Paula Abdul will reunite with Simon Cowell for X Factor. There has been speculation galore on whether she will actually join the new show but we suspect that it was a condition of Fox even putting on yet another talent show. Is there an audience for so many? Fox is the main player in all these talent shows many of which (including this one) were created in the UK. There have been some nasty comments about Cheryl Cole being a judge as she is not well known in the US. Cowell needed a "name" to bring in the audience and who better than is sparring partner from AI. All the shows are now fighting hard for an audience. When you reach saturation point or close to it the audience becomes a little thin on the ground. Auditions with the judges has now started. Not that Simon Cowell is worried. X Factor has done very well in the UK. As long as it gets a decent audience it should survive.
