This article was posted about the filming of season 4 and will be relevant for all those awaiting the series in North America and beyond.
Singer Kylie Minogue is currently filming her appearance in this year's Dr Who special which takes place aboard the Titanic. The episode is called the Voyage of the Damned. Kylie plays a waitress on the ship. David Tennant returns as the Doctor. Writer Russell T Davies has said it is the most ambitious special they have ever undertaken. Minogue who is filming in Cardiff says it is a great thrill to be in the special. Comedienne Catherine Tate who played the 'Runaway Bride' last year is set to return in the fourth season. It has also been announced that the fifth season of the latest run of Dr Who will be delayed until 2010 due to Tennant returning to the RSC for an extended season. However there are rumours that he may not return but the BBC has no comment.
TENNANT AND DAVIES BID FAREWELL!
Whilst North America get the premiere of The Water of Mars as their Christmas special, the UK audience will see THE END OF TIME. It marks the farewell of David Tennant as the Doctor as well as writer and showrunner Russell T Davies who has handed over to Stephen Moffatt as a new Dr Who era begins. It will be sad for everyone to see them go but as Davies has mentioned in interviews the new series keeps up the pace he has set since 2005 beautifully. North America should see the last David Tennant Dr Who special in the New Year subject to broadcast channel.
The popularity of the new series of Doctor Who continues with a nomination in this year's People Choice Awards. The series which stars David Tennent as the doctor will have a 'gap year' according to the BBC as Tennent goes returns to the RSC to do more theatre and will return for its 5th series in 2010. The 4th series is about to air on the BBC and will come over to North America next year.
Nearly 10 million viewers watched the finale of the fourth season of Dr Who on the BBC last week (beginning of July). For the sake of our North American readers we won't give away the plot although most fans will already be aware! The photo shows actor David Tennant who is the current Doctor with just one of his companions of the season, Donna Noble played by Christine Tate. Also returning is Billie Piper as Rose. It is widely known that Tennant is taking a break to join the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford for a number of plays and the series will not return until 2010. There are some specials planned. Generally these appear in the UK around Christmas time. Other than that it is a long wait for fans until they find out whether Tennant will remain as the Doctor for the whole of the next season. The finale sees the Doctor battle his most formidable (and fan favourite) enemy the Daleks.

The BBC has announced that Matt Smith has signed for another 14 episodes but no scheduling of the series has so far been planned. Stephen Moffatt has also annnounced that the Daleks may not be making an appearance as the are "the most reliably defeated enemy". It is certainly true they have been in every series but then its tradition!
Coming as a complete surprise to many fans who have enjoyed watching Elisabeth Sladen reprise her role as Sarah Jane Smith in the new series of Doctor Who alongside both David Tennant and Matt Smith, is the news of her sudden death at the age of 63. Sarah Jane Smith was the Doctor's assistant in the series in 1973 to 1976 first with Jon Pertwee and then with Tom Baker as the Doctor. She was much more capable than previous assistants and worked with the robotic dog K9 too. They went on to appear in spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures on CBBC in 2007 after she reprised her role in the main series. Both Russell T Davis and the present producer Stephen Moffatt praised Sladen for her fun and enthusiasm. She will be missed by fans. The actress has been battling cancer for some time.
