STARS RETURN FOR ER SWANSONG

As you are probably aware this is the last season of ER. If you have been watching the trailers you will also have noticed they are mostly in flashback. News from the set is that Anthony Edwards will make an appearance in the final season, probably in a flashback sequence. The actor who played Dr Mark Greene in the show, left in 2002 with his character suffering from a brain tumour. Also coming back for 4 episodes will be Noah Wyllie. Will George Clooney and others return for cameo appearances? Who knows. At the moment no confirmation. Certainly it will be a season not to be missed.

ARE YOUR US FAVOURITES COMING BACK?

Almost before the old season has ended and the new pilots get their appearance we have some good news for Supernatural fans. Looks like those Winchesters are going on for another season. They join NCIS and House, Fringe and Glee who are doing really well. Recently announced mid-season show The Voice will be coming back again in 2012. The latest news is that CSI: NY has survived the chop - it was the least performing of all the CSI's so the three shows (CSI and CSI Miami) look to be back next season. The new version of Nikita was touch and go as it lost almost half its audience but the CW think it has a good fanbase so it got renewed. Human Target no news yet.

Fans of House, Fringe, Glee will see new seasons. Also looks like Human Target is coming back for another season but moved to a new day. Of course there is the usual mix of reality shows such as Hell's Kitchen, Cops and others. We will bring you news of the new shows shortly in our Fall Season page.

In its final season will be Law & Order Criminal Intent but audiences will be reunited with Vincent D-Onfrio and Kathryn Erbe as they return to their characters. Scheduled to air in 2011 it will leave just 2 series in the franchise left on screen.

24 of course is not returning for another season and we will bring you news on the film of the show when more details are confirmed.

Talking of recreating old series there is another golden oldie on the way! As the Queen song goes 'The Saviour of the Universe' Flash Gordon is going to return to the small screen in the shape of Canadian actor Eric Johnson. He has appeared in Smallville prior to getting the part in the revival of this comic hero franchise. No announcements have yet been made as to who will play Dale Arden or Dr Zarkov.

Most of the Sci-fi series are safe. Smallville obviously on its final season but Supernatural is back, along with Sanctuary and Stargate Universe. Canadians will probably see a new series of Heartland come back as it has proved a popular series for the CBC. The obvious ones like the CSI franchise are of course back for new seasons. Law & Order the original is not coming back although there is a replacement which you can read about in Fall Seson. SVU and Ci are back. Criminal Minds, The Mentalist and In Plain Sight have all been renewed.

As many fans know Smallville is definitely coming to an end and Tom Welling will bring about the transformation of Clark Kent into Superman. There is more interaction with Lois as this progression is played out. It was inevitable that the series would have to end as it was no longer about the young Clark Kent but many fans will be sad to see it go. This year saw the next regeneration of Doctor Who with Matt Smith in the role. it is always difficult for new actors in the role and David Tennant made a great impression on many. For many in North America you have a few episodes to go before the season finale.

THE RETURN OF THE WIZARD

The BBC has announced that the series "Merlin" will return to screens next year for a fourth season. Perhaps because of the success of Harry Potter or the Robin Hood series, Merlin has captured the audiences imagination. There have been dissenters who say the story doesn't reflect the legend but it is effectively done. Here Arthur is still a Prince of Camelot (played by Bradley James) which is ruled by his father Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head of Buffy fame). Merlin (Colin Morgan) is a young magician who has to hide his talents as sorcerer is banned from Camelot. If you know the legend you can see how effectively they have woven the characters into the updated story. If you don't then just enjoy!
